'Una palmera entre mil'

One thousand ceramic sculptures as a tribute to Haría, the Valley of the thousand palms.

a project in collaboration with ceramic studio 'Estudio Vernís'

'Una Palmera Entre Mil' – 'One Palm Among A Thousand' – is a tribute to Haría, the village where Latitud Fuego® is. This quiet town in the North of Lanzarote stands apart. Home to the celebrated César Manrique in his final years, Haría is known as 'the valley of a thousand palms".

The ceramic piece you see is a tribute to this truly unique landscape across the Canary archipelago. Hand-carved from high-quality stoneware in a wood-burning kiln, each palm is one of a kind.

This project has been carried out in collaboration with the Spanish ceramics studio Estudio Vernís, a workshop that celebrates craft and the unexpectedness of wood-firing. The artisanal process provides every piece with its own peculiarities, making each palm unique. The heat, ash and the unpredictability of the flames work together to create textures that feel alive, shaped by nature.

The graphic design was developed by SantanaSantana studio and the visual material by photographer and director Martin Salvador.

limited and numbered edition

With four, five or six fronds, broad or slender trunks. No two palm trees are alike. Just like the palm groove of Haría.

The project goes beyond the artistic approach. ‘Una palmera entre mil’ was conceived as a call to action to protect and care for the Haría Palm Grove, which consists mainly of Phoenix canariensis trees, a species endemic to the archipelago. This delicate, centuries-old plant ecosystem has been severely affected by numerous invasive species such as Diocalandria frumenti, the spread of which across the island is currently being combated.

The palm trees also possess a much greater intangible value: traditionally, their leaves are used in local crafts to make baskets, hats, mats and other household items. You can see this cultural richness reflected in the traditional Lanzarote way of life, which is still very much a part of our lives today thanks to unique figures such as Eulogio Concepción, the local basket weaver from Haría.

The graphic design for the project was carried out by the SantanaSantana studio, which was responsible for the design of the packaging, cards, posters and other graphic materials. The photographs shown, as well as the audiovisual piece accompanying the project, are the work of the filmmaker and photographer Martín Salvador, who is based in Haría.

The packaging is manufactured in Spain from eco-friendly cardboard certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC©) and printed in Lanzarote. It is custom-designed to protect each palm tree, which is wrapped inside in tissue paper and bears a unique serial number.
