Pandemia a corazón abierto
As the title itself makes explicit, this work started from the difficult period of confinement caused by the Covid-19 pandemic from March 2020. A few months earlier, in the summer of 2019, Alexis de la Cruz Otero had opened in downtown Arrecife “La Madriguera”, a second-hand bookstore. During the uncertain months of the beginning of the pandemic, the author resorted to poetic writing, both as an exercise of introspective reflection and as an escape formula from the closed reality of everyday life. Written in chronological order, Pandemia a corazón abierto begins on March 14 with the confinement and ends with an “epilogue without a purpose”. The collection of poems is, in the words of the author, “the bittersweet fruit of those days of confinement”.
“My heart is one of the volcanoes of Timanfaya.
There are millions of liters of magma beating in it.
And here I am, doing the laundry. Spitting,
through the crater of the mouth, these verses of lava.
The coronavirus has made it erupt”.
