Leche Condensada
‘Leche condensada’ is a Pokémon game for the Game Boy. Aída is twelve years old and lives in the south of Tenerife with her mother. Aída must grow up. Or hold back so as not to grow up. Or keep Moco, her identical cousin, her other self, with her. Or protect herself from him. Or protect Yaiza, her best friend, instead. Or deceive her using a fake messenger. Or drink until things cease to be what they are. Or talk and talk about things and how they are. Or keep quiet.
‘Leche condensada’ is about the end of childhood, about symbiotic relationships and about wanting to be expansive and encountering the restraint of abuse. It is also about the internet as a refuge, especially when you live in a village and are queer. Aida González Rossi draws us into her first novel with wild, dirty prose, steeped in oral tradition and video game narrative, which is absolutely unique.
