"Javier Reyes. La mirada artesana" is a publication that pays tribute to the photographic legacy of Javier Reyes, photographer and documentary maker born in Haría, Lanzarote, in 1926.

This book brings together a careful selection of images captured between 1940 and 1970, reflecting the rural life of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Co-published by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Data Centre and the Publications Service, and the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands Government, the work seeks to give permanence to a visual archive of more than 16,000 negatives lent by the author to Memoria Digital de Lanzarote.

The book, designed by Rubén Acosta, includes texts by leading experts in historical photography, such as Mario Ferrer, Carmelo Vega and Carlos A. Schwartz. The images by Javier Reyes portray the peasant and seafaring life of a society marked by harsh living conditions before the arrival of tourism, capturing gestures, clothing and scenes that form part of the cultural heritage of the islands.
