'La Lucha', discover the Canarian traditional sport.
‘La Lucha’ (2025), directed by José Alayón, tells the story of Miguel (wrestler Tomasín Padrón) and his daughter Mariana (Yazmina Estupiñán), who overcome the loss of their mother through this local sport called ‘Lucha Canaria’.
This intimate drama was filmed entirely in Fuerteventura, it stands out for its authenticity, using real wrestlers and 400 local extras, exploring grief and identity through this traditional sport.
Meet the Unión Norte Haría
For some time now, we have been going to enjoy la Lucha Canaria. The atmosphere during a competition is excellent. Respect for opponents and the nobility of the sport stand out above other values. It is a very family-friendly atmosphere and excitement is guaranteed among the different teams, who accumulate points throughout the competition. It is quite common to see spectators eating sandwiches – with special attention given to the so-called “Racing” sandwich – and roasted sunflower seeds.

Club de Lucha Unión Norte de Haría was founded in 1967, the result of a merger between C.L. Haría and C.L. Máguez to create a single, stronger team made up of twelve members. It enjoyed its golden age in the 1980s, winning five consecutive league titles and the Canary Islands Championship in 1983. The team, based in the municipality of Haría in Lanzarote, has been a pillar of this traditional sport in the Canary Islands.

The team was crowned champion in the senior division and junior categories of the 40th Fundación La Caja de Canarias Cup. July 2025.
