The traditional architecture of the Canary Islands by Santiago Alemán. The guides by Nacho Romero. The verses of Alexis de la Cruz. 'Mar de fondo' by Yasmina Pérez. The Prehistory of Lanzarote by Agustín Pallarés. And so many other titles with such great cultural, artistic and historical weight that they put even the most experienced bookshelves to the test. 😏
1. The creative process.
In 1887, Olivia Stone published a revolutionary work based on her explorations of the Canary Islands. A pioneering female perspective that reflects the history, traditions and culture of the archipelago at the end of the 19th century, it is considered the first classic travel guide to the Canary Islands. The most iconic illustration of this work is her on a camel in Lanzarote.
This collaboration between Ediciones Remotas and Latitud Fuego represents a tribute to Lanzarote and the spirit of exploration guided by reading. That is how we turned this iconic image into an 'Ex libris'.
Ex libris (Latin for “from the library of”) refers to a personalized label, stamp, or design placed in a book to show ownership, often featuring the owner’s name, initials, or a unique artistic motif like a crest or symbol, serving as a mark of personal possession and collection pride. It’s a form of art called bookplate art, dating back centuries, and can range from simple printed labels to intricate engravings or drawings, connecting the owner to their cherished books.
