FTV Studio and Latitud Fuego® presents:

SACOS

Everyday bags made from recycled kitesurf sails, our latest collaboration with FTV Studio.

“This is a must in every house” said Geo after the first drafts. To make them real, we decided to partner with Carolina, a very talented artisan from Fuerteventura who collects broken kitesurf sails to transforme them into useful accessories.

This is how SACOS were born, the sustainable solution to dress your plants at home. Suitable for two different pot sizes, now available in three colors: beige, brown and black.

LF: Carolina, how did the FTV Studio brand come about

Carolina: I studied fashion design and I have always been interested in creating useful and sustainable pieces. A friend gave me a broken kitesurfing sail that he intended to throw away and I started making small accessories for my own use. From the beginning I liked them and started to receive orders from friends. One of them, who worked in a kitesurfing centre, contacted me to come and collect a dozen broken sails to recycle. Thus FTV STUDIO was born as a brand of accessories in Fuerteventura from recycled kitesurfing sails. Then I continued with small bags, backpacks, even hats to protect you from the sun.

LF: How is the process of collecting the Kite sails?

In Fuerteventura it's simple: it's kitesurfing paradise. Imagine how many sails are damaged every year. When I saw that all that equipment was being thrown away, for safety reasons of course, I decided to give it a second life. There is no ‘place’ where the schools deliver this material, so I go from door to door selecting the material that has the potential to become a new piece of equipment.

LF: How do you design the FTV Studio accessories?

The first thing is to think about the usefulness of the product. I like simple, functional accessories. So finding a pattern that works is the most important thing. Cutting requires precision. Making requires patience. Choosing the right candles I use is everything for a good result. Light weight. Good strength and durability. I really like to see people happy with one of my accessories.

LF: What are your next plans with FTV Studio?

Right now I have the commitment to be at the handicraft market in Lajares every Saturday. That means a lot of work. In the meantime, I am always on the lookout for improvements to the current products. Right now I'm making a prototype of a windbreaker jacket that can be used in and out of the water, for sailing and everyday use. That would close the design circle. What I like most about my job is meeting creative people to learn from and share ideas with to create new projects.

We use old kite lines to tie our labels, designed with ASCII illustrations of flowers and plants.

Driven by nostalgia, we designed our labels creating ten ASCII* flowers and plants, tied using old kite lines. All perfect to be planted in pots and dressed in Sacos, our everyday bags made from recycled kitesurf sails.

*ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of pictures pieced together from the 95 printable characters defined by the ASCII Standard from 1963.
